Case Study: Ready for Change

Judith and Mike Webb - Wadswick Green Residents

Ready for Change - from old cottage to modern apartment

“We had a large garden, which started running us rather than the other way around.”

Judith and Mike Webb have been living in their old cottage in Salisbury for 16 years but have decided to give their living situation a spring clean extraordinaire by moving into a brand new apartment at Wadswick Green in Wiltshire.

Judith comments: “This move really is a fresh start for us and we had to find a home that we would feel comfortable in long-term. After viewing some other retirement properties, which seemed a bit on the smaller side and were often located in-town, we found Wadswick Green offers a unique combination of modern, spacious properties in a rural setting, which has really won us over.

“We are also excited about the onsite facilities such as the gym, spa and swimming pool, which are a hit with our children and grandchildren when they come to visit us.”

Mike adds: “The maintenance aspect of our old property was also a major factor for us choosing a new-built apartment as we had a large garden, which started running us rather than the other way around.”

Having to spend less time on maintaining their cottage, the Webb’s will use their newly found freedom to pursue neglected and new hobbies. They both enjoy visiting National Trust sites and Mike wants to explore taking up painting. As all Wadswick Green apartments are ideal for a lock up and leave lifestyle, the couple also considers travelling overseas.

On the move from Salisbury to Wiltshire, Mike comments: “One reason for moving to Wiltshire was to be closer to our daughters and two granddaughters in Oxfordshire. We actually used to pass through Wiltshire when we drove up to Somerset to visit Judith’s parents and I remember how we admired the beautiful landscape. To me, it has always felt like home.”

The Webbs have purchased a 3-bedroom Courtyard Apartment at Wadswick Green for £550,000.

The spacious 3-bed Courtyard Apartments are 1,326 sqft (123sqm) in size, featuring a 5x13ft balcony or wrap-around terrace; so sunrise can be enjoyed from the large double bedroom or living area.

The large living room has an 8’4” ceiling to floor height with floor-to-ceiling double aspect, double-glazed windows, allowing the light to flood-in.  The modern open-plan kitchen, dining and entertainment area features a moveable central unit which provides a wide-open space which is perfect for hosting friends, family and the grandchildren.  It also allows for large pieces of furniture.

The interior blonde oak finish has a warm, rich and contemporary feel with wide boards of natural grade engineered flooring and wool carpets in a warm striped design. All bathrooms feature mushroom- and mink-coloured floor tiles and limestone porcelain stone brick-shaped wall tiles for contrast.

The theme continues throughout the kitchen units with off-white worktops, creating a sophisticated and modern living space. An alternative modern, light and airy oak interior finish is also available if preferred and there is hot-water energy-efficient underfloor heating throughout.  This Courtyard Apartment also has broadband, Wi-Fi, telephone and satellite outlets.

The interior design incorporates wide aisles, low level ovens, shallow shelving, easy to use taps, wet room and step-free flooring.  The kitchen is designed by Alno with integrated Bosch appliances including oven, hob, microwave as well as dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer.  The elegant, seamless contemporary design also has soft intelligent closers and hidden finger pulls.

The apartment benefits from two bathrooms, of which one is en-suite to the third bedroom. Both bathrooms feature striking warm taupe porcelain stone brick-shaped tiles with limestone finish, whilst the luxurious three bedrooms (12ft 9”x 10ft 10”, 12ft 9”x 10ft 6” and 12ft 9” x 12ft 2”) have high ceilings, plenty of natural lighting and ample storage space. There is recessed, directional low-energy LED lighting and ambient lighting scheme -the owner is bound to sleep well in this rural haven in the Wiltshire countryside.
