Going on holiday from a Retirement Village

You may be starting to plan for your retirement and wondering what your options are. Retirement villages offer older people, generally over 60, the opportunity to live independently in a property they own, as part of a wider community. Our retirement villages are there to create healthier, happier and independent lives. One question we are often asked is:

How easy is it to go on holiday from a retirement village?

Travel is high on the list of plans for many retirees. With time available for longer trips, retirees want to explore new places, visit family, and spend time with friends. The beauty of living in a contained luxury retirement village is that your property is safe and secure.

We want all of our residents to feel safe, and all of our specially designed retirement properties are safe and secure. There in an on-site 24-hour response team who can deal with any problems. Our homes are also fitted with a smoke and fire alarm which is connected to the on-site 24-hour response team. Residents can have complete peace of mind knowing their security is top of our mind and there will always be someone on hand in case of emergencies and you can rest assured that your property is safe whilst you are away from home.

Not many people can say that they can lock up their home and go away on holiday for a few weeks or even months and know that it will be safe and secure. This is a real advantage of living in a retirement village, as it allows you to enjoy the travel adventures you have always dreamed of, stress free. Both your home and garden will be secure and well maintained in your absence.

Whilst your home is secure, we also have a few tips to make sure you are safe and enjoy your holiday:

  • If you're flying overseas, you'll need to check the expiration date on your passport and your destination's validity requirements; some countries require you to travel with a passport that does not expire for at least six months.
  • If you’re not comfortable walking more than 10 minutes or so, arrange a wheelchair for the airport. Terminals seem to be getting larger these days, and you might have a long walk to your gate or the baggage claim area.
  • Leave plenty of time to get to the airport. When they suggest two to three hours, believe it!
  • If cruising, choose shore excursions carefully when planning, and consider arranging private tours or just enjoying time on the ship. It can be exhausting!
  • Buy front-of-the-line tickets or book tours with special hours to avoid wasting time in long lines. It really is worth the extra money.
  • If you will be doing a lot of walking, be sure to pack comfortable shoes and break them in before going on your trip.
  • Use a money belt or some type of inside pocket or hidden place for carrying money or valuable paperwork and documents.

Retirement villages enable residents to enjoy their retirement to the maximum, allowing them to travel as often as they life. We offer a whole range of other benefits and can give individuals an exciting new lease of life whilst providing a ready-made community and support system. We know that considering a move to a retirement village is a very personal one and a choice that has to feel right for you. Our village sales advisors are always available at the end of the phone to discuss and talk through any questions you may have.
