House Hunting for your Ageing Parent?

13/03/2023 General, Wadswick Green, Siddington Park, Mickle Hill, Homewood Grove, Newsletter, Case Study, Blog

A 2022 University Hospitals study found moving house to be considered the third most stressful life event behind divorce and losing a loved one. In fact, around 50% of home buyers find the anxiety of moving house to be the most stressful event of their lives. For many within the retirement community, moving later in life can feel like an added burden, especially given the current UK cost of living crisis, and so opt to stay put in properties which have become too big and too difficult to maintain.

However, whether you’re house hunting for yourself or for a retired parent or loved one, Rangeford Villages has multiple measures in place to ensure that the home buying and moving process is as quick, easy and painless as possible for all involved…

With Rangeford’s Deferred Legal Completion Option you can start your new life sooner than you think. Whilst your existing property is still on the market, you can move to your new Rangeford home on a six month tenancy lease whilst contracts are being exchanged. Plus, Our Independent Moving Incentive gives you the chance to talk to a specialist in the comfort of your own home. This complimentary, dedicated support and advice will allow you to discuss all the things you need to consider when moving to a retirement village, and the support available to you throughout the process, letting you fulfil your resolution and embrace your new life with ease. Furthermore, for a limited time only, if you close the deal we will cover your energy bills for the first 4 years of your Rangeford Villages residency. But hurry! This offer is only around until May 31st 2023 (terms and conditions apply).

Rangeford Villages understands the importance of family and that keeping your elderly parents or loved ones close is key to battling loneliness in retirement. Diana Harrison, 47, from Wiltshire found her parents facing exactly this situation and was becoming increasingly worried about them living an isolated and lonely life in their family home in Essex. With Diana living almost 3.5 hours away, the thought of an emergency happening, and her not being able to reach in time, led to Diana suggesting her parents move closer to her home.

She comments: “My parents are both in their 70s and I think that their generation is very much used to living in one property all their life, whereas people of my generation can easily move house a few times. I felt that I needed to show my mum and dad that a move can really improve their overall lifestyle; give them a new lease of life.”

After researching the options in Wiltshire and the surrounding area, Diana came across Wadswick Green: “I was really impressed by the quality of the apartments and the onsite amenities. The team even arranged for my parents to stay overnight so that they could experience what it would be like to wake up in the new apartment, go down for breakfast and mingle with other residents.”

Diana’s parents moved into Wadswick Green’s central building, The Pavilion. Suitably named Pavilion apartments, the properties offer direct access to the village’s amenities which include a swimming pool with sauna, steam room, gym, spa and hair salon. In addition, The Pavilion is home to The Greenhouse restaurant, which has proven popular with residents and the Wiltshire community alike, especially since the launch of its smash success refreshed menu in January 2023.

Rangeford’s apartments are designed with maximum energy efficiency in mind and several special features, including fully fitted kitchens with integrated Neff appliances. Energy-efficient underfloor heating throughout plus high-efficiency double-glazed windows keep bills (and resulting stress) low. Large bay windows and walk-on balconies provide bright natural light and immediately make our residents feel at home in the idyllic countryside settings of our villages.
