How Rangeford Retirement Villages are Promoting Sustainability

At Rangeford Retirement Villages, doing the right thing for the environment has always been one of our key priorities. We believe passionately in  protecting  the future, whilst enhancing lives in the present. We want to make sure that our planet offers the same opportunities for future generations. We do this in many ways, alongside our investors Fern Trading and with our affiliation with the Octopus Group, who are committed to protecting the environment and oversee responsible financial and social investment.

All of our employees are equally committed to sustainability and protecting the environment. We have developed our training and engagement programmes to help empower our colleagues to play their part and we offer advice and information to help them develop any of their own ideas and initiatives focusing on the environment.

In terms of our operational objectives here at Rangeford Retirement Villages, we promote our responsibility to the environment, and we work towards the following:

  • Reduce the use of energy, water and other resources.
  • Minimise waste by reduction, re-use and recycling.
  • Reduce the use of plastics and packaging in the bar/restaurant/bistros.
  • Use local contractors and suppliers where possible and support the local economy.
  • Promote natural habitats and encourage biodiversity with our acres of landscaped grounds and gardens.
  • Nurture our kitchen gardens and allotments for our restaurants’ and residents’ use.
  • Use renewable energy providers for all our communal areas.
  • Manage an all-electric fleet of communal transportation.
  • Provide EV chargers for resident use.

To help drive our sustainability agenda, we are offering new incoming residents the opportunity to lease a brand-new electric car on us for three years! According to the Exo Experts, buying an electric car is one of the quickest ways to reduce your carbon footprint and fight climate change.  Significantly, statistics show that in 2019, electric drivers in the UK stopped the climate from being exposed to 2.8 million tonnes of CO2.

How our electric car offer works:

  • Offer is limited to one car per household and is available for new build reservations received from 3rd April 2023 and legal completions by 30th June 2023.
  • Rangeford Villages will fund the leasing of an electric car for new residents up to a maximum value of £500 per month for a period of 3 years.
  • This offer is available at Siddington Park, Wadswick Green and Mickle Hill only.
  • We reserve the right to change the reservation and completion criteria dates.
  • Additional terms and conditions apply - contact our sales team for more details.

What else are we doing?

We are developing purpose-built new communities for future residents to enjoy in later life. Our villages are carefully designed on an individual basis to ensure that they take advantage of new technologies to reduce our impact on the environment.

We always aim to meet BREAAM ‘Very Good’ as a minimum, an internationally recognised certification which assesses the building’s specification, design, construction and use for its impact on the environment.

A key strategic move is to include all-electric energy systems supplemented by Air Source Heat Pump’s and Photovoltaic electricity generating cells. These systems help reduce carbon emissions and provide ongoing energy cost savings.

We will invest in energy infrastructure in our existing buildings including adding Photovoltaic cells and EV chargers where possible and constantly improve our biodiversity levels across our outdoor spaces.

We’re thinking ahead.

We are continuing to adapt our ways of working and construction techniques to further enhance our environmental and social credentials with a drive towards a net zero outcome by 2030 by using greener design methods, energy sources and strategies. We will also encourage our residents to reach the same target and help our residential communities to cut energy waste and switch to cleaner energy. We look forward to sharing this journey with you.
