How safe is a Retirement Village?

How safe is a Retirement Village?

Retirement villages offer older people, generally over 60, the opportunity to live independently in a property they own, as part of a wider community. Retirement villages are there to create healthier, happier and independent lives, but what are the benefits in terms of safety?

Improved Mental Health

Studies have been undertaken which show that older people who live in retirement villages are less anxious or depressed, they exercise and keep active more, are rarely lonely and have improved memory. We all know that as we age, friendships can be harder to find and difficult to maintain. Moving into an integrated retirement community helps provide the residents with a ready-made supportive environment and helps to limit the consequences of being cut off from society. There is a really great sense of community and wealth of activities to get involved in within the villages with people who are at the same stage in their lives.

"Qigong provides me with a good opportunity to meet other residents and get to know them, it's very sociable. There are about 15-20 people in each class and although we all take it seriously, we do have fun and laughter. It has become an important part of my life as it helps to keep me mentally and physically fit and had I not moved here I would never have taken it up.” Resident Ted Bayley from Wadswick Green

Feeling Secure

Often as people get older, they feel more isolated and are cut off from friends, family and neighbours. We want all of our residents to feel safe, and all of our specially designed retirement properties are safe and secure. They have a personal alarm communication with an on-site 24-hour response team and there is video and audio door entry for the building entrance door to ensure you know who you are letting in. They are also fitted with a smoke and fire alarm in each apartment which is also connected to the on-site 24-hour response team. Residents can have complete peace of mind knowing their security is top of our mind. There will always be someone on hand in case of emergencies and you can rest assured that your property is safe whilst you are away from home.

Residents have also been shown to have a lot less falls and injuries as the homes are built with the needs of over 60s in mind, to allow them to live independently with confidence. They feature single floors, open plan layouts to help mobility and modern shower rooms with easily accessible walk-in showers.

Care Available On-site

Imagine knowing that you can retire safely and comfortably, with your personal and medical needs being able to be met. At Rangeford Villages we think there’s no place quite like home which is why we’re right behind those people who wish to remain at home and independent for as long as it is possible to do so.

Rangeford Care are able to provide a variety of services to assist residents who need or want some help at home. We offer specific reablement packages, for example after a fall or a stay in hospital; assistance to remain independent in your own home; and compassionate end of life care.

Having these facilities on site also has a benefit to the wider community and there are cost savings to the NHS due to less visits to GP’s and residents spending less time in hospitals.

Our Care team specialises in providing dependable, high quality personal domiciliary care and support services. Our flexible Care and Assisted Living plans are carefully tailored to meet the specific needs of each client.

Whatever the frequency and level of support required, even just knowing that there is extra care available on site can help to enhance health and wellbeing for residents, allowing them to live in the moment, knowing that when the time comes, they have the home care they need at reach.

Retirement villages offer a whole range of other benefits and can give individuals an exciting new lease of life whilst providing a ready-made community and support system. We know that considering a move to a retirement village is a very personal one and a choice that has to feel right for you. Our village sales advisors are always available at the end of the phone to discuss and talk through any questions you may have.
